A Cajo Technologies customer, who specializes in advanced components and machine engineering, was searching for a solution to add traceability markings to their high-speed aluminum extrusion process. Their production line moves at a speed of 1 meter (3.3ft) per second in the phase where the aluminum would be marked. This customer had already tried another fiber laser marking system provider, but this provider was unable to achieve laser markings on the fly* with enough speed to match the rate of extrusion, with the level of marking quality they sought. With this laser marking provider, the line would need to be stopped to mark the aluminum extrusion at regular intervals, which would cost valuable time and money for the manufacturer.
Cajo Technologies began the prototyping process with their laser marking systems and had great success. Cajo’s fiber laser marking system’s ability to mark on the fly* at high-speeds, while marking precise traceability codes and serial numbers met the customers’ needs, allowing them to save time and money in their manufacturing process. The Cajo Tailor laser marking system was integrated into their production line with ease, resulting in a happy customer who was able to maintain their production speed and product quality, while adding precise traceability markings.
The advantages of on the fly markings* are that a continuous, long mark can be applied and components can be marked while moving through a highspeed production line with almost no addition to cycle time. Cajo’s laser marking systems can perform on the fly markings at all common production line speeds. Additionally, Cajo Tailor fiber laser markers can be easily integrated into existing lines. * “On the fly marking” is a process in which a component is marked while it is moving past a marking device. This can be difficult to achieve as the marking system needs to track the speed of the component and mark in the correct place while it is in motion. Cajo Technologies laser marking systems are capable of “on the fly” markings on many materials.
